Rufous-tailed Hummingbirds 19239
Rufous-tailed Hummingbirds (Amazilia tzacatl) are feisty and easily seen in mid elevation gardens in many areas of Costa Rica. They are found in many habitats from beaches to open forests at 8,000 feet. In drier areas there sometimes is altitudinal migration in search of food. Their upper parts are a metallic bronze-green. The lower parts vary from gray to brown. The tail is orange-chestnut. The female is similar, but with a duller throat and whitish belly.
