Blue Dasher Dragonfly
The fragile beauty of flying creatures captures my imagination, especially when it is found in unexpected places. This Blue Dasher Dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis) was photographed as the sun set behind the Statue of Liberty at Warren Park, in downtown New York City. Dragonflies are most visible to us during their flight stage, but they are actually classified as aquatic as they spend most of their life during their larval stage in ponds, lakes, streams and wetlands. They are welcome in many gardens as usefully predators of mosquitoes and other insects.
